A thousand miles and it only cost $85 in fuel??!! 1000 miles in my car in the UK would cost me easily £150+ :(

Now it makes sense why US invades oil reached countries. 1000 miles and paying only $84.75 that is awsome. In my country we pay $950-$1100 for that much gas and for about 1000 miles. I pay $450 for 60 liters (15.8 gallons) to fill the empty tank of my car.

I'm driving my second Tesla Model S since 2014, so to answer your question, my next vehicle purchase will be another EV. Will it be another Tesla? That's an open question. I do very few road trips, so some of the other brands of EVs are an option for me, and I have a reservation on a Ford F-150 Lightning. I've never been loyal to a particular brand of vehicle...

I'm curious why the charging points were out of order, are they quick fixes or is that station pretty much out of commission for a while? are they attended to when they are out of order in a short amount of time?

it went really bad for the electric cars. it takes five minutes to fill a gas tank and one hour to partially charge an electric.

Unless I’m mistaken, Isn’t the test pointless the moment Marques drove until he had 1 mile of range left? I doubt the average person with an electric car would do that and it’s not like people with gas cars wait to refuel until they’re empty. If he actually stopped like a normal person would, how much more time would have been added to the trip?

Gas engines still the best for now! I can pack up and go for any road trip whenever I want without worrying about if there are any gas stations along the way. If the world is worry about pollution, why don’t we just make more NATURAL gas engines? We can make plenty of natural gas corn or whatever! Remember guys, we are still using coil to produce electricity! Lol

The biggest reason why I wanted an electric car was because of the technology it had over the gas cars when they first came out. Now, most cars have the same technology when it comes to adaptive cruise control, brake/parking sensors, and even lane assist. The next reason was because filling up your "tank" in electric cars were cheaper. But, given the time you'd have to spend charging, I'm not sure if it'll be worth it to save $20 on a 1000 mile road trip, while adding an additional hour or two to charge. Plus, even though I've never done the research on maintenance cost for electric cars, my guess is that they're not cheap and the longevity isn't that great. I've heard the battery life on ev's are pretty bad -- losing about 15-20% battery life in about 5 years. I think this video helped me out on my next car purchase, which is coming pretty soon, and I had the debate of gas vs electric. Unless there is an evolution, or next big thing in ev is coming out, I think I would stick with a gas car for my next purchase.
Crazy Cheap
Crazy Cheap 11 ימים לפני
The maintenance on electric cars are actually close to nothing. I've driven my Tesla for 17,000+ miles without needing any type of maintenance. If you actually checked, the maintenance on the car would be tire change/rotation/balance (at any tire shop), check 12v battery, windshield wiper fluid, and clean brake pads (because they're almost never used)., and typical A/C cabin air filter maintenance (costs about $50).... as for savings costs, I took a vacation to FL recently and spent $76 round trip plus 6 days there, for a total of 1,500 miles. Assuming a 40mpg gas car and an avg gas price of $2.80, for gas it would be $105. Plus the maintenance you're going to need every 5K miles..... vs my Tesla maintenances of every 2-6 years regardless of miles driven. Via the Tesla forums, I found that on average, Model S owners lost less than 10% of their capacity after the last 8 years of ownership..... personally my Model 3 is used, currently now has 54K miles on it, is a 2018 and has lost 0%. So.... not sure where you're getting your info from! :) Oh and typically I'm 30 minutes behind Google Maps eta on long trips.

I've been driving my 2017 bolt around New England and New York without quick charge for a couple of years. Gotta plan but it's really not a big deal. I like to mountain bike and can almost always find chargers near trails. It's been really nice riding all the trails I would have passed by previously. Usually, the free municipal offline charges are best btw. My next car will also be an EV probably another GM. As an aside if you like camping there is almost always 240v available so bring your charger. I would never buy a tesla or iPhone, neither respects standards nor is it repairable/modifiable by the owner.

Q5 and Mach-E built in Mexico, Model S in the USA. Imagine the stress if chargers do not work and the one that does work is occupied by someone who let's his car charge for three hours or more. An EV makes you dependent on the decency of other drivers. Not a position you want to be in. I prefer a reliable diesel.

Lithium batteries charge the fastest for the first half and charge more slowly when getting closer to filled. So the EV cars technically shouldn’t have tried to fill up completely because that last half of charge takes a higher amount of time. Fill to 50 or 60% then repeat.

I certainly think that EVs are the future of transportation, but talking in terms of the near future, my next vehicle will most likely be a gas car. EVs still have a long way to go before they can deliver the kind of experience that traditional gas cars deliver. In gas cars:- - Refuelling barely takes any time. - The range estimated is perhaps closer to what you actually get. - There’s no need to rely on vehicle or app info; cause you find gas stations basically everywhere. - Buying a gas car is cheaper (though running it may not be).
Christopher Carl Images
Christopher Carl Images 15 ימים לפני
EVs still a niche vehicle. Works well for some people and that's why they still make up only 2% of car sales in the United States. Obviously, there's Tesla which is the standard and everything else which is not very competitive and the reason is the Tesla charging network.

I purchased a Hybrid. I love the electric cars out there, but I wanted to be able to go for a long period of time on a tank of gas with the hybrid battery help. In our car, I can make a round trip of roughly 8 to 10 hours on the same fuel tank and then some. The miles I ended up doing on this said tank were right around 630 total miles. I could have gone longer, but I refuse to let my tank get below 1/4 so I don't destroy my gas pump.

Yeah I love EVs and the new technology but there are still too many hiccups and problems such as the ones you outlined in this video. Here in WA (Aus not US) there is next to no EV support as well so I'm going to stick with petrol for the next purchase.

Its a well know fact that in a "race" you do not max charge then go the full distance. Out of spec motoring has proved this numerous times. You leave the charger when your charging curve drops, this ensures peak charging at all times which makes it more efficient. Had this been done I have no doubt the Tesla would have beaten the ICE handily. More stops for shorter more productive charging. When done like this its not unheard of to be stopped for only 15-18 minutes.

Why was a hybrid car not included in this??? Most hybrids get 500+ miles per gas station stop. I have done a road trip with 2 different non plug in hybrid cars, and I have found they are quicker than gas cars. With that high mileage, you only need to stop once on a 1000 mile trip, and just pack snacks. I usually take a half hour or so off my google maps eta since I drive 5 mph over the speed limit usually. Also keep in mind that the gas car in this video stopped for food even though they didn't really have to, whereas the Tesla built that into their charging time. If you like stopping often on road trips the a Tesla is a great buy because you can stop at the superchargers and take a break, but if you just want to get to your destination the quickest like myself, hybrids are the way to go because you only have to stop every 500 miles, which at 70 mph is 7-8 hours and if you just use the bathroom and grab some snacks or even lunch and dinner at the gas station it really is great. I honestly don't know why someone would buy a gas car in 2021 because it has absolutely no advantages other than its cheaper...

I made a 750 mile drive in a Model 3, Dual Motor, Long Range, and had a very similar experience, although not as good as yours. That model cites a range of 308 miles. Much of it was crossing the full width of Pennsylvania, much of which is hilly, if not mountainous. I used the EV stops prompted by the Tesla GPS. I was nervous by the time we needed to do that first charge. There were only about 15 miles of range left by the time we got to that first charger. Based on that, I felt compelled to charge it all the way to the max so as not to run out of charge during the next leg. What was interesting was 95% of the charge to full was completed within 40 to 45 minutes. For some reason, to finish the final 5% of charge took a minimum of another 20 minutes. Painful! Bottom line, I got closer to 200 to 220 miles of range per charge, rather than 308, so I had to charge THREE times, although one of those times was only a partial charge. Strictly on a time comparison basis, if I were making that trip in a gas car, only one of those stops would have lasted as long as the charging stops, an hour, in order to take a real break from driving, gas up, eat & go to the potty. The other stops I would have kept to 20 minutes or less, rather than an hour each. So, when you have to make a long trip, there's a big difference between a trip that could be completed in 12 hours, versus one that takes 14 and half hours. You REALLY feel that at the end of the trip. I enjoy all the perks of an EV, great acceleration, quiet, cleaner, etc, but I won't miss the current battery technology once they make the needed improvements. There are only 3 things standing in the way of full adoption of EV by the masses: 1) Higher energy density in the batteries. If they can get this high enough, maybe a 1000 pound battery becomes a 750 pound battery AND gives real world range of 350 to 400 miles. 2) Create a battery technology where quick charging can be done routinely WITHOUT stealing years of life away from the battery. 3) Once items 1 & 2 have been addressed, item 3 will automatically follow suit, that being, a charging network extensive enough that there is no convenience downside to where you need to go in order to charge your car. They simply must get it to where you don't need to recharge as frequently, it does't take so long to charge, and you can charge at nearly as many locations as there are gas stations. Let's face it, it certainly requires more energy to move a tanker full of gas down the road to be delivered to gas stations, than it does to move the equivalent amount of energy in the form of electricity down power lines. The great stuff about EVs is really great and routine local commutes are a total non-issue compared to the long trips. But those LONG trips.... they're a bear in an EV!! (P.S. The one and only good thing about longer refueling stops was that, with nothing to do for the extra 20 to 40 minutes, I opted to close my eyes and rest. Sometimes I actually fell asleep and napped, but either way I was more rested and more alert for the next leg of the drive than if I had not had that rest.)

I have a little brain excercise for you gas lovers out there that can do math. Figure out how many gas stations are there in this country for gasoline cars. If you want, include the number of diesel stations as well to make ice cars look even better. Now multiply that number by 137,554x which should give you the number of electrical outlets there are in this country. Can you wrap your head around that?
